U16s 2-1 Holbrook Sports

A tough game for the lads today against a team who are very physical and a slightly Mardy side. First half we continued playing the excellent football we have shown over the past few weeks and resulted in us having a lot of the ball and creating numerous chances. Unfortunately we lacked composure in front of goal and didn’t take any of them. We went into the break 0-0 and the message was to remind the boys of how we want to play and to take our chances when we get them. 

Second half the game became quite stop start with a lot of free kicks going both ways. The game became a little scrappy until De Marian scored with a shot from out side the box to put us 1-0 up. A few minutes later and on the front foot we went 2-0 up. Matthew Mensah scoring a stunning goal from distance for the second week running. 

At this point we needed to either kill the game off or slow the game down and keep the ball. We did neither and allowed the opposition to score after a mix up between our Gk and Cb allowed there forward in to score. 

Once we had dusted ourselves down we did start to pass the ball and play the better football, we had further opportunities but couldn’t quite kill the game off so made it a tense last 5 mins. We stood firm and took the 3 points which now leaves the lads on 4 wins from 4 games and we have played some outstanding football along the way.

Tyler Wilson

Tyler is usually our ball winning midfielder but today we asked him to play up front. His work rate and hold up play were excellent and Tyler was an absolute pest to the opposition all game chasing down every single ball and never giving the opposition a minute. He ran the channels really well and almost got himself a well deserved goal.
